“Journeys, landscapes, characters and states of mind often have a lasting impact on me. I return to these impressions in my imagination, developing them into scenes or stories that later find expression in my music.”
Madis Muul is an Estonian composer, pianist and keyboardist. He leads the Madis Muul Trio, performing original contemporary jazz. His work also includes concert music for chamber ensembles and original scores for theatre and film.
His recordings include The Guide (2022) with LUUM and Characters (2019) with the Madis Muul Hextet. His concert works include String Quartet No. 1 – Echoes of Layers (2025), a three-movement composition recorded by Muul Ensemble.
Muul has composed extensively for theatre, including the music for L’Étranger, also released as an album in 2022, and Oidipus. Antigone, for which he received the Estonian Theatre Award in 2022. His composition Secret Creek received second place in the jazz category of the International Songwriting Competition.
